  1. Hey guys, Dan from WM here:

We probably could have explained our criteria a bit better here, especially with how it relates to Mario Kart 8’s place on the list. As some of you have pointed out, it’s not exactly the most “photo realistic” looking game, but we felt that it fit the rest of our criteria in terms of it being a game with a “high level of technical detail” that “pushed it’s respective system to the limits”.

Our intention with that line was to explain mainly why “pretty” looking games with minimalist, cel-shade art styles like “Inside” were excluded.

    Thanks!

    1. We’re mulling the idea over, because you’re right: it’s tough to compare what are basically apples & oranges.

Speaking honestly yet again, we’ve simply found that the second we divide a list into separate categories (like Modern & Retro, Xbox & Playstation), the video(s) do worse. People prefer seem to prefer things that are “all encompassing”, regardless as to whether or not that makes the most sense.

A few years back we did “Games of All Time” and that was a nightmare. How do you reconcile things like Super Mario Bros, Ocarina of Time & ES5:Skyrim onto a single list together? It’s tough…

    2. Dan Paradis Following this criteria, shouldn’t you guys do a separate list for each platform? Because, Nintendo’s consoles are not at the same hardware caliber of PS4 and Xbox One, and none of them are at the same caliber as PC. On PC the most demanding games, are probably Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, For Honor and Watch Dogs 2 (not a Ubisoft fan, but they’re probably the most demanding). I think it’s a great idea to do lists on hardware specs demanded by games in the end of each year, or in case of consoles, FPS and resolution, in the end of each generation.

    3. Well, to be perfectly honest, the video was actually produced and completed before we got our copy of MK8:D on the Switch. We talked about replacing all the footage when we did get our copy, but we decided that the improvement was marginal at best. It throws our production department for a major loop when we pull a clip to change things around, since there are a lot of steps to verify before something goes out, so we decided against it in the end.

To produce 5 or 6 videos every day, things have to be prepped waaayyy in advanced. We have to pick our battles when it comes to what we can change & when.

If we were to make the video again tomorrow it would probably be a different story. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    4. Dan Paradis Maybe you answered this already, but any reason you went with the Wii U version instead of the Switch version? Or did the Switch not improve much graphically?

  2. They should make a part 2 because they missed so many game with really good graphics like: Quantum Break, Last of us, Resident evil 7, Until dawn, rise of he tomb raider, ecc.(maybe even war Thunder becasue I think that on max graphics it could make it on the list)
