  1. Im a huge Fucking nerd but in the silmarillion it states that after sauron was nearly destroyed in the downfall of numenor, he took the form of a great eye. in the book, I feel like it is both metaphorical sometimes and literal at others. in the Return of the King it never straight out says there’s a giant eye in barad dur, but it’s said in the silmariallion that a great eye is the form he took.

  2. I thing that the biggest difference is that in movies is whole story presented as centerpieces of the whole world, but in the books war of the ring is only the final episode of the long fight with the evil.

  3. The main difference I am missing from this list is the fact that in the movie Frodo sends Sam away, after Gollum has successfully made Frodo suspicious of him. In the book, only the Ring ever came between Sam and Frodo and then only for a very short moment. Their bond was unshakeable and based on unconditional trust.
