These are the anime series that break the mould. They don’t follow the traditions of their genre and they excel. Keep an eye out for some of the most iconic anime series of all time like Neon Genesis Evangelion, One-Punch Man, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
We love traditional mecha, magical girl, romance, high school, shounen, battle, and harem series but these add a little something extra.

  1. Didn’t watch mojo pretty much diss highschool dxd white is regarded by many as one of the best harem anime made recently wow watch mojo that’s fucked up

  2. Kuzu No Honkai is doing a better job at deconstructing the school romance ganre than School Days ever could.
Also Konosuba or Re:Zero could probablt be on the list, they’re both good deconstructions of the the “stuck in a video game” genre (yes, somehow that has become a genre…)

  3. Neon Genesis Evangelion also throws a twist in to the giant mecha genre. The EVAs aren’t actually robots, but meat and bone and blood wrapped in armor to protect and control them. Also, certain EVAs are.. well fuckin’ insane. With good reason.

  4. could the ‘one punch man’ part be explained to me? i don’t even know the term that was used to describe the genre it is focused on. i have though watched probably at least half of the mainstream classic anime (like mid 90s, not much older than that)
