  1. I’ve worked at a hotel for 5 years and here’s what I have to say about this list.
    10. Those things SHOULDN’T be free. You’ll only get those for free depending on who is working and if you’re just a nice person. I give people free things all the time, only because I don’t feel like ringing up cheap stuff.
    9. Once again that depends on who is at the desk. There isn’t an early check-in fee (at least in my place) and personally I try to sell the best rooms first. So if you get a bad room after an early check in, it’s cause it was the only one available.
    8. Hotels absolutely WANT you to know this. We all hate 3rd party sites. They steal from you and us. Plus if something goes wrong, we can’t adjust the price at all to help you.
    7. Yea. Not gonna argue that one. lol
    6. Hotels do background checks on all the employees. (At least the good ones do) but that doesn’t mean the staff is trustworthy. So yea, careful with your stuff.
    5. Yea I guess so, but that really applies with anything that’s just sitting out for people to use.
    4. Never heard of that. Our rooms are pricier at night because the cost goes up when there are less amount of rooms available. The cost is usually lowest in the morning, but once again depending on who is working, the person at the desk will happily lower the price to a reasonable amount to sell the rooms.
    3. I agree with this, but that isn’t specific to hotels. People mess with food and open things in grocery stores as well. Some people are just inconsiderate jerks. But do check the expiration dates though. I know we give soda to guests that expired like a year ago because our bosses are too cheap to change them out.
    2. That’s not working around the cancellation policy…That’s just changing the date. Sure you can change the date to make the arrival over 24 hours from now, but we can see that the date has been changed before if you try to be sneaky and call later to cancel.
    1. That’s the same with the ice bucket. Be honest with yourself. A hotel cannot PERFECTLY clean everything with the amount of time housekeepers can flip the room. There will most likely be residue of things. Don’t kid yourself and think that everything will be spotless. Most hotels do try their best to clean it as good as possible, but there is only so much they can do in so little time. Plus think about how all the unused sheets are just sitting in a housekeeping closet for days until they need to be used. who knows what bugs are hanging out in them.

  2. Went for 2 night getaway with my sister few moths back, our room key did not work so I went and told the girl in repression…I can be socially awkward/shy most of the times, so I took this chance to kind of push myself and start chat with her…once we reach the room she got me new key, upgraded us to late check out, 4 hours later than needed, also we could leave our suitcase after ( some hotels charge you for that) and she also offered free breakfast on check out day…in total she basically provided us with £80 worth ”serves”.
    Always be nice.
