  1. You cheated not only the game, but yourself.

    You didn’t grow.
    You didn’t improve.
You took a shortcut and gained nothing.

    You experienced a hollow victory.
Nothing was risked and nothing was gained.

It’s sad that you don’t know the difference.

    – Everyone else in this show, probably

    1. naruto10in I think you forget something even more important; the manga came out before the anime, in the 80’s and early 90’s, when the card game wasn’t even put into existence yet and the anime only adapted the first set of arcs before Duelist Kingdom. Even then the manga that Yu-Gi-Oh is based on did all this which is what the anime took on board. The author made up all the rules as it went on and the anime changed certain duels to accomodate for rules that were added into the TCG.

Also the anime had filler, some of the best filler in Anime history but still filler with a LOT of made-up rules that were entirely exclusive to their special sets of circumstances. Watchmojo should’ve done more research and maybe they’d complain about Season 0’s card based duels (when Kaiba was really the only other duelist in existence.)

    2. Technically… they weren’t exactly cheating. The anime is based off the Duelist saga of the manga and during the Duelist Kingdom arc, Kazuki Takahashi hadn’t gotten the rules jotted down until a clamour for an official release of the Duel Monsters card game from the franchise came around the time of the Battle City arc.

  2. Agreed, but one fight wasn’t cheating. That one against Pegasus. He was able to read his mind, so he was cheating too, Yugis move in this case was more like a countermeasure. In other fights, yes, Yugi was cheating.

  3. Some of these are legit. Others are a function of Season 1 being based on the manga in which the rules weren’t quite defined just yet.
No. 2 is kind of BS though. 😛

I love the refs to The Abridged Series though. lol

  4. The way I think about season 1’s game play is that it’s based a lot on imagination instead of having specific rules. So if you think of a reason a specific card has an effect, it has it, so the person who can BS the most wins the whole game.
