The “Best of WatchMojo” is a new series that highlights some of our biggest and best videos. Since these videos originally published we’ve added millions of subscribers and viewers who may not have seen these videos.
Some of the best movies start with the hero’s origin, and most of the time that story is told in the first film. But which Batman movie is the best? Every time Spider-Man and Superman are rebooted we have to figure out which movie did the hero justice. Marvel and DC love to bring their chacraters to the big screen and some of them get movies that do them justice. We aren’t only looking at superheros here, but any pop culture character, from Star Trek’s Captain Kirk to MI-6’s James Bond. WatchMojo ranks origin story movies to determine which ones did the character the most justice.

We know there has already been lots of debate about the status of Prometheus as a prequel and/or origin story – with even director Ridley Scott saying that while it explores its own mythology, it still shares “strands of Alien’s DNA” and takes place in the same universe. However, because the plot follows a crew seeking the origins of humanity and the film features an ancestor of the Xenomorphs, we’re allowing this (indirect) prequel to remain. Casino Royale is not an origin story at all. At the end of the movie, you still don’t who the hell is this guy, where he comes from or what is his story before becoming 007. Maybe you should prioritize quality over quantity, what do you think?
